At P.S. 82Q, we open our library doors after hours to any parent or family member to come in and read with their child. Every Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:40 pm to 4:00 pm, our parents have open access to our school library. We have books in Spanish, Bengali, and Punjabi, with many dual language books so family members can read the books both in English and in their native language. We have many families on all grades that come in to take advantage of our new parent lending library.
Students at P.S. 82Q are members of the New York Road Runners Mighty Milers (NYRR) running program. Students of all grades and all fitness levels can join the Mighty Milers program. This program is designed to get the students moving, prevent obesity, and improve aerobic fitness. In addition, the Mighty Milers program also helps build student self-esteem and goal setting. P.S. 82Q competes against other schools in several track events. Overall, the students have a great time at these events, participating and socializing with their schoolmates.
At P.S. 82Q, we started a new tradition. Students from Grades 2 – 5 competed amongst their peers in the very first Spelling Bee competition at P.S. 82Q. There were winners on every grade. In the near future, winners from Grade 5 will move on to the Borough level and will compete with students from neighboring schools in order to select the Grand Winner. May the best speller win – although everyone was a winner at this event!
Fall Harvest Parade. To celebrate the Fall season, students at P.S. 82 dressed up as their favorite literary characters for a Harvest Parade. We had Cat in the Hat, Pinkalicious, Dorothy, and Harry Potter to name a few. Students and faculty members paraded around the block on a cold autumn day. Afterwards, students received a s’mores treat, which put smiles on all their faces. Click here to see more pictures of the Event...
Healthy Body, Happy Heart, Power Brain! At P.S. 82Q, you can see our students clapping and chanting the Power Brain Education motto throughout the day. Power Brain Education is designed to develop the full potential of the brain and helps students achieve focus, confidence, memory, creativity, and emotional wellness. We find that our students are energized and they think it’s just fun! |

And the Winner is… At P.S. 82Q, to the delight of all students, teachers decorated their doors with seasonal messages and/or themes related to the curriculum. A panel of students voted on the best door on each floor of the building. In addition to the Grand Prize winners, we voted on special awards for each of the doors, such as: Made by Kids, Most Creative, etc. The doors were welcomed surprises to children and adults alike. November is Gratitude Month! P.S. 82Q created a character education program entitled “Kids of Character.” Each month we highlight a different character virtue, such as Gratitude for the month of November. To demonstrate gratitude, P.S. 82Q organized a food and coat drive in November as a way of giving back to the community. |

Go Lions! P.S. 82Q has its very own soccer team named after our beloved mascot, the lion. The P.S. 82Q Lions consist of students from Grades 3 – 5. The team enjoys a full schedule of practices and interschool matches. The soccer program helps to guide each student to perform at their highest athletic, academic, and social potential. Let’s Go Lions!
Get Out the Vote! Students of P.S. 82Q brought democracy to life during this past election season. Students participated in the P.S. 82Q 2016 Mock Presidential Election. All students voted via a “secret ballot” and proudly wore “I Voted” stickers to indicate their civic duty. All votes were tabulated by our students and announced within the school for all to hear.
