Remote Learning

Dear Parents,

Happy February!

We are halfway through our school year. It is so great to see how much your children have already progressed. We are looking forward to an amazing remainder of the year.

Reading

Planting for the Future

We are moving into the second half of this unit. We will be focusing on understanding that living things grow over time.

Nonfiction: Readers will continue to use text features in order to better understand nonfiction texts. We will try to understand the connection between multiple facts in a text and we will identify the main topic and key details of a nonfiction text.

Fundations

This month we will be learning to use consonant blends in order to read, write and spell new words. We will also introduce R-controlled vowels, starting with ar and or. We will continue to look at the difference between narrative fiction and informational nonfiction books.

fundations

This month we are learning the glued sounds: ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, and unk Our focus will be on having students blend, read and spell these words. We will also be looking at the difference between narrative fiction and informational nonfiction books.

Writing

We are continuing to work on our Opinion unit of study. In this unit, students will learn to state their opinion, give reasons for that opinion and support those reasons with examples. As always, we will continue to work on stretching our words to spell, capitalizing the first word of a sentence and proper nouns, and correct punctuation.

Math

We will continue working on subtraction within 20. In addition, we will start to look more closely at the relationship between addition and subtraction. We want students to understand that addition and subtraction are inverse operations and how they can use related facts to find unknown numbers.

Important Vocabulary: addition, addition fact, subtraction, subtraction fact, add, subtract, sum, difference and related fact
